Rose to the Occasion

This little carving of a rose didn’t need to be there.

To paint the scene for you, this rose is engraved into the top of a metal park bench end.

It is just one bench out of dozens, maybe even more than a hundred.

It is located on Liberty Walkway at Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

The Walkway spans a loop of more than 5 miles along the Hudson River.

Oh, and the skyline of the Big Apple and arguably the most famous statue in the world hover along the horizon.

In spite of the grand surroundings, somebody somewhere decided to engrave a rose the size of a kumquat on top of the bench posts.

And guess what? It works.

This small detail caught my eye. Despite the world-renowned surroundings.

And it got me thinking: Remember to take time to stop and smelt the roses.
