A Fan of Adventures

To me, great art takes your mind on an adventure.

It’s an adventure to a far off place, or to a place that is warm and familiar, or to a place that does not even exist. It’s wherever you wish to go.

This photo, for example, shows Brower Hatcher’s Fan at Grounds for Sculpture. It stands six feet tall and 12 feet wide, made from stainless steel, glass and iron, according to the the GFS Site Map. It’s an impressive piece.

Up close, this sculpture alternately takes me on an adventure into a complicated solar system in deep space, or into a field of technicolor flowers, or to a grapevine coming to life in the summer. There’s no right or wrong adventure.

The next time you are confronted with a great work of art, try embarking on a mental adventure. Your mind will surely be a fan.
